Sculptra (Galderma) is an injectable collagen stimulator (biostimulator) supplied as a sterile dry powder — 150mg poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microparticles, 90mg sodium carboxymethylcellulose and 127.5mg non-pyrogenic mannitol per vial — reconstituted with sterile water (optionally with lidocaine) before injection into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra works gradually: the PLLA microparticles stimulate the body's own collagen production over time, correcting shallow-to-deep nasolabial fold deficiencies and other facial wrinkles, and is FDA-approved for cheek wrinkles, with results reported to last up to 2 years. Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid, PLLA-SCA) is Galderma's collagen biostimulator, first approved for aesthetic use in Europe in 1999 and in the United States in 2004. Supplied as a freeze-dried powder (150mg PLLA per vial) that is reconstituted before injection, it works by triggering a controlled inflammatory response in the deep dermis or subcutaneous tissue, stimulating the body's own collagen production gradually over several months rather than providing immediate volume.

Sculptra is reconstituted with sterile water per manufacturer instructions, then injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous tissue using fanning or cross-hatching technique, avoiding the lip vermillion and periorbital area.

A course of 2-3 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart, is typically recommended, with results developing progressively over the following months.

  • Known hypersensitivity to any ingredient
  • History of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring
  • Do not inject into the red area (vermillion) of the lip or the periorbital area
